Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan was recently asked about George Parros, the DoPS, and whether or not they unfairly target the team with suspensions.

Throughout George Parros' tenure as the head of the NHL Department of Player Safety, there has seemingly been an egregious bias against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Whenever a Maple Leafs player commits an infraction, they get suspended, while other players get a light slap on the wrist.

The first couple of times it happened, it was easily dismissed. However, it keeps happening and fans are starting to grow increasingly suspicious.

Brendan Shanahan used to have George Parros' job, so he is the perfect person to ask whether or not Parros is exercising bias against the franchise.

In new comments, Shanahan made it clear that he does not believe a bias is being exercised.

Instead, he understands that Parros has an extremely difficult job and that he just wants to do what is right for the league and its players.

«Well, I think we all get mad when our guy gets suspended, right? Even me-we all do. But having done the job and knowing the integrity that George Parros has, his integrity is not something you'd ever want to question.

That said, I do think, from time to time, especially because I've done the job myself, he and I like to talk about various things going on around the league, including decisions and the thought processes behind them. Those conversations are always better when you wait a few days or weeks to calm down-when both of you are in a better mindset.

At the end of the day, you always want what's best for your team, and George is trying to do what's best for the league. I'm just trying to do what's best for the Toronto Maple Leafs.»

Based on these comments, it is very clear that Shanahan is at least a little bit frustrated with the inconsistency of it all.

After all, you never want to lose players because of some sort of innate bias against your franchise.

Either way, the Department of Player Safety is always going to be controversial, and the Leafs will just have to learn to play extra clean.
