The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that is looking to add pieces at the deadline, and there is no doubt that Seth Jones could be an interesting target.
For now, Brad Treliving's primary concern is getting the team a serviceable third-line center who could move Max Domi over to the right wing.
However, with Morgan Rielly struggling mightily this season, a big and strong defenseman could be the right move for the Leafs.
While Jones' $9.5 million cap hit might scare you, David Pagnotta of The Fourth period has reported that the Blackhawks are willing to retain salary in a deal.
If the Leafs were to add a third team into the mix, then a trade would certainly be doable. That said, it would still be an expensive proposition.
Regardless, Jones is a 6'4 defenseman who weighs in at 213 pounds. This would make him the biggest heavyweight on the team who could viably be a top pairing guy.
The only issue with Jones is his abysmal career net rating of -126 which will definitely give some people pause.
Either way, the Leafs should at least consider the move. Rielly is not playing like a number-one guy and it is clear that the team could stand to improve on the blue-line
Only time will tell what Treliving does at the trade deadline, which is coming up fast.
