Auston Matthews missed three weeks with a lingering upper-body injury and now, the Toronto Maple Leafs captain is speaking out about how he feels after a few games.

When Auston Matthews left the Toronto Maple Leafs for a few weeks due to an upper-body injury, there was a huge collective concern amongst the Maple Leafs fanbase.

At first, Matthews was just supposed to be listed as day-to-day, however, things eventually got worse for him.

He subsequently went to Germany where he sought treatment, and in the same week, he returned, much to the delight of his fans.

Since his return to action, he has been racking up points, but his coach Craig Berube has noted how the forward is not yet at 100 percent.

This has certainly led to some concerns, and even Auston Matthews would agree that he isn't back to his old self yet.

Auston Matthews talks his upper-body injury

While speaking to the media, Matthews had some comments about his injury which could be interpreted as a bit of a concern, moving forward.

For instance, he admitted that the wear and tear of playing is still affecting him, even though he just came back. Not to mention, he feels like he needs to get his conditioning back.

"I'm getting there. I mean, it's tough. You know, you jump right back into the games. After being out, I think it takes a little bit of time.

It seems like the first couple of games, you're kind of running on adrenaline just because you've been out, and you're so excited to be back. Then, obviously, the wear and tear and the grind of playing a lot kind of comes back.

So, it takes a little bit of time to really get your full conditioning and everything back. But like I said, every day, every game, I'm feeling better."

Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs play the New Jersey Devils and that will be a great opportunity for Matthews to get closer to 100 percent.

The Leafs are looking to get back into the win column after losing a couple of bad ones in a row.
