Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will be playing for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off and that appearance is coming with a whole bunch of responsibility.

Auston Matthews is currently in his first season as the captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs and there have been some debates about his leadership style.

However, Bill Guerin appears to be a fan as Matthews was named the captain of Team USA for the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Auston Matthews gets to be captain of Team USA

The Maple Leafs superstar will be part of a leadership group that also includes guys like Matthew Tkachuk and Charlie McAvoy.

This just goes to show that Team USA has a lot of faith in Auston and that he is a better captain than some would lead you to believe.

Considering he gets to be the captain of his home nation, one could argue this is more responsibility than being captain of the Leafs.

Auston Matthews has had an interesting season with the Leafs thus far as he has 20 goals and 38 points in 36 games.

His nagging injury had many wondering if he would be able to participate in the 4 Nations Face-Off at all, although it seems like he is back to 100 percent.

This tournament is the first of its kind and the players seem to be pretty excited about all of it and understandably so.

Matthews has a few teammates participating in the tournament albeit with different countries. Mitch Marner for Canada, William Nylander for Sweden, and Jani Hakanpaa for Finland.

Hopefully, this tournament lives up to the hype, and Matthews can show the world he is a born leader on the International stage.
