Shawn Simpson was a goaltender who was drafted by the Washington Capitals back in 1986 and since that time, became a beloved radio personality in Ottawa.

Unfortunately, it was announced today over the airwaves of TSN 1200 that Shawn Simpson passed away at the age of 56. As of right now, it is unknown how he died.

Shawn Simpson was beloved in Ottawa

Simpson played junior hockey for the Soo Greyhounds and the Oshawa Generals where he was a standout that got NHL attention.

He played for the Baltimore Skipjacks in the AHL before eventually transitioning to a career in the media.

Overall, Simpson was a beloved media figure on TSN 1200 where he hosted a show called "Coming in Hot."

With news of his passing spreading online, fan accounts in Ottawa paid tribute, noting just how great of a guy Simpson was.

"An absolutely heartbreaking loss for the City of Ottawa and the hockey world.

Shawn Simpson was an incredible person. His passion and love for the game of hockey was on full display whenever you spoke to him. A true gem.

He will be missed by so many people. Devastating."

This is a horrific loss for the hockey community, not just in Ottawa, but around North America.

It is also a sad reminder that life is fragile and that you never know what can happen or what someone might be going through.
