Overall, Mikko Rantanen is one of the biggest free agents going into the offseason, as is Mitch Marner.
Both of these players could make a boatload of money and they are both similar players which makes the Toronto Maple Leafs an interesting case.
Rantanen has playoff pedigree and unfortunately, Marner simply does not. As a result, some feel like the Leafs should move on from Mitch and go for Marner.
There is no guarantee that the Finnish star re-signs with the Carolina Hurricanes, and as a result, insiders are trying to find teams that might be looking to sign him.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of a few teams that could make a push for Rantanen.
Other teams include the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the Dallas Stars, and even the Florida Panthers.
However, picking up Rantanen would also mean losing Mitch Marner and there is no telling whether or not that is a smart decision.
It is a bit of a risk and Brad Treliving is being tasked with trying to figure out what the best move for his team would be in this scenario.
This is no easy task, and if you are the Maple Leafs, you are being thrust into a truly impossible situation.
