Oliver Ekman-Larsson has been one of the best defenseman on the Maple Leafs this season although he might have to miss a bit of time.
The D-man went down against the Oilers on Saturday night during Hockey Night in Canada and he was not able to get back into the game.
Following the injury, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube made the claim that OEL was going to be day-to-day and there was no timeline for a return.
Well, today, Ekman-Larsson was absent from practice due to maintenance. However, the Leafs also called up a defenseman which makes it seem as though OEL might have to miss some time.
That defenseman is none other than Dakota Mermis who infamous went from the Leafs to the Utah Hockey Club and back to the Leafs.
Mermis will be one of two extras should OEL continue to play. Although if Ekman-Larsson does miss some time, then Mermis will be the next man up.
This is a great opportunity for the Toronto Marlies player as he may finally get to play some significant NHL minutes this season.
Even if he doesn't, spending some time with the team will do him some good.
He will get to skate with them at practices while also learning more about Craig Berube's system.
If there is one thing that Berube has shown us this season is that he will consistently reward hard work.
