Craig Berube may have just confirmed Auston Matthews & Matthew Knies' status for Saturday
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has had to pull his hair out over the last few weeks as big stars like Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies have been injured.
Despite these injuries, the Maple Leafs had been on two nice winning streaks that propelled them to first in the Atlantic Division.
However, on Wednesday night, the Maple Leafs got a huge reality check from the Florida Panthers.
The Leafs lost by a score of 5-1, and the absence of their forwards became a bit too painfully obvious.
At this point, it is clear that the fans just want the team to have their best players back, and Berube would love that as well.
While speaking to the media, Berube's comments would suggest that his best players are destined to return soon, which should be music to the ears of Leafs fans.
Craig Berube hints at Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies' status
With Matthews and Knies making the road trip to Florida, it seems all but confirmed that both players will be on the ice Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This would be a huge help to the team, and it would probably boost morale and give everyone some pep in their step.
Despite last night's loss, the Leafs are still 13-7-2 which is a solid record, all things considered.
The NHL seems pretty wide open this season. There isn't a single team out there that feels like a real Stanley Cup contender.
With that said, the stage is set for the Leafs to take things to another level, especially when Matthews and more of his teammates return.
