NHL Insider Confirms the Toronto Maple Leafs Are Gunning to Sign Jonathan Toews
Jonathan Toews is thinking of making an NHL comeback and with the Toronto Maple Leafs looking for a third-line center, we could have a match made in hockey heaven.
During his tenure with the Chicago Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews won three Stanley Cups while notching 883 points in 1067 games.
Toronto Maple Leafs would love to have Jonathan Toews
The legend has not played an NHL game since 2023, however, it would appear as though he is trying to make a comeback.
Whether that be this season or next, there are plenty of teams who would be more than happy to have a guy like Toews on their roster.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, one such team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have been desperately looking for a third-line center.
"Well, I can tell you that at this point, Jonathan Toews has indeed resumed skating, he's feeling the best that he has in years. He's also back down to his playing weight. I've been told multiple teams expressed interest in Toews' potential return to his agent, Pat Brisson from CAA Sports... I'm going to give you three teams to keep an eye on if Jonathan Toews does decide to make a comeback bid: One of them is the Toronto Maple Leafs. A third-line centre has been on Brad Treliving's wish list all season long."
Given Toews' age, fitness, and declining production, the Maple Leafs could probably sign the veteran forward for a reasonable price.
Moreover, he would be the perfect third-line center for this roster, especially given his Stanley Cup-winning pedigree and experience.
Of course, this would require Toews to officially announce a comeback into the NHL, which is not guaranteed as of yet.
Having said that, if he does become available, then it is good to know that general manager Brad Treliving is already deeply considering it.
He would immediately make this team better and as Leaf fans, everyone should be cheering and praying for this to happen.
