Darren Dreger's latest Anthony Stolarz comments are the last thing Maple Leafs fans want to hear
NHL insider Darren Dreger recently gave an update on the Anthony Stolarz situation and if you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, it is the last thing you wanted to hear.
Anthony Stolarz tweaked something on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks, and since that time, the goaltender has been put on the injured reserve, retroactive from December 12th.
Darren Dreger speaks on Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz
Stolarz has been absolutely sensational so far this season, however, this recent injury is making some Leafs fans very nervous.
On Wednesday, the team plays against the Dallas Stars and it is very likely that Joseph Woll will be getting the start.
Subsequently, the Leafs are back in action on Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres in a rematch of Sunday evening.
There is a chance that Anthony Stolarz could be in the lineup in time for that game.
That said, TSN insider Darren Dreger recently made some interesting comments about Stolarz and his recovery timeline.
Dreger believes the team has no clue what the extent of their goaltender's injury is and that if he does not practice today, then he may very well be gone until next week or beyond.
"I don't think the Maple Leafs have a full grasp on the extent of the injury I'm going to be curious to see if he is back on the ice for practice as early as tomorrow (Tuesday) and if he's not out there than perhaps his situation drags a little bit longer. I also don't think it speaks to the severity of the injury, more to the patience and the approach of the Maple Leafs with all their players this year. He's eligible to return off injured reserve on Friday, but for me it's always are they practicing, and if he's not practicing tomorrow, maybe they go a little bit longer."
This is the absolute last thing that Maple Leafs fans want to hear right now, especially since Anthony Stolarz has been playing like a Vezina trophy candidate.
He has a record of 9-5-2, a goals-against average of 2.15, and a save percentage of .927. If he is out for a few more weeks, than the Maple Leafs could very well be in for a rough stretch of hockey.
