Matt Murray has not played an NHL game since April 2023, and since that time, he has been trying to prove his worth while grinding it out with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Last night, Murray ended up capturing a shutout for the Marlies on the same night that the Maple Leafs defeated the Dallas Stars with Joseph Woll in the net.
The backup for the Leafs right now is Dennis Hildeby, however, some wonder if his lack of experience will hurt the Leafs over the next month.
As a result, there has been rampant speculation about whether or not Murray would be called up to replace Hildeby.
Moments ago, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman fed into this narrative, claiming that it is, indeed, Matt Murray's time.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs decide to confirm this information to be 100 percent true.
Of course, there is always going to be speculation when it comes to the goaltenders for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Having said that, Matt Murray has been working hard and he definitely does deserve another crack at it.
He also has a wealth of experience between the pipes, which gives him the perfect opportunity to be the backup the Leafs need right now.
