Eric Lindros Reveals How He Really Feels About Maple Leafs Winger Matthew Knies
Matthew Knies is quickly emerging as one of the most promising young players on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster and he just had praise from Eric Lindros.
Speaking on the "Leafs Morning Take" podcast, Eric Lindros highlighted the immense potential of Matthew Knies:
"The guys are pulling it together -- look at Knies. When I watch Knies play, I think there's no end to how good he can get. He's solid. You look at him and he's got the strong neck, he skates with purpose, he just looks like such a player and I think as he gets his confidence going and gets more and more exposure, I think you're going to see a load that -- people look at 'we need a goal, let's get Auston out there' -- I think that load can be shared a little bit more with the likes of Knies. I think he's going to be one of those players."
Matthew Knies sophomore season is going well as of now
Matthew Knies' second season has been marked by both highs and lows with the Leafs, but after an impressive start with 10 goals and 16 points in his first 23 games, he had a 14-game slump where he managed just 3 points.
However, the return of Auston Matthews to the lineup seems to have bring back Knies' scoring touch.
Over the past three games, Knies has scored 5 goals and 2 assists, including a hat-trick performance against the Boston Bruins.
His ability to leverage his size effectively on the ice complements his offensive skill set and it's making him a polyvalent threat for the Maple Leafs.
Eric Lindros believes Knies is on the verge of sharing the offensive load with stars like Matthews and Mitch Marner and it's a development that would provide the Leafs with much-needed depth scoring as they push toward the playoffs.
Matthew Knies' stats helped his upward trajectory with 16 goals and he is already surpassing his previous career-high of 15 from last year.
He also had a career-best 22.9% shooting percentage and he is proving to be both efficient and impactful.
The Leafs will look to continue their good sequence tomorrow against the Carolina Hurricanes and Matt Knies will be aiming to extend his current three-game goal streak.
