NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman came through with an update on Toronto Maple Leafs fourth-liner Steven Lorentz, who has been more than impressive this season.

Steven Lorentz won a Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers last season and while he didn't log a lot of playing time, it was enough for the Toronto Maple Leafs to take a chance on him.

While playing on the team's fourth line, the forward has scored four goals and four assists this season while playing every single game.

Lorentz's playing time is proof that head coach Craig Berube loves his game and understands how important his role is to the team.

The forward is on a one-year deal, however, there have already been discussions about him getting a contract extension.

In fact, according to a new report from Elliotte Friedman, the deal should be done soon as the Maple Leafs want to lock Lorentz in for a few more years.

General Manager Brad Treliving has certainly been a busy man as of late as he recently signed defenseman Philippe Myers to a two-year deal.

Meanwhile, with the trade deadline looming, it is a very real possibility that the Maple Leafs make a big trade.

The team wants to add a third-line center and guys like Yanni Gourde and Brock Nelson are at the top of their wishlist.

The Maple Leafs currently lead the Atlantic Division by four points as they are currently in a tight race with the Florida Panthers.

Tonight, the Leafs will have a huge test in front of them as they take on a fiery Carolina Hurricanes squad.
