Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Sam McCue was sent from the Owen Sound Attack to the Flint Firebirds, although it appears as though a second trade might be in order.

Sam McCue was a seventh-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and this season, he has been solid with the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL.

On Wednesday, the left winger was dealt to the Flint Firebirds in exchange for Cole Zurawski, however, it appears as though the trade might be in jeopardy.

Sam McCue is reportedly refusing the Flint Firebirds

Following the deal, numerous sources online reported that McCue has little interest in playing for the Firebirds.

Furthermore, there was some speculation that the forward could be traded again to a team that better suits his preferences.

However, according to Hockey Patrol, there is now a sense that McCue could be angling for a scholarship in the NCAA.

The NCAA and the CHL have decided to partner with one another after years of being unspoken adversaries.

With this in mind, McCue would be allowed to join the NCAA and get a college education in the United States of America.

This would certainly be a welcomed change of pace for McCue and his development, although nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

All we do know is that the Maple Leafs prospect's junior career is now in limbo and it remains to be seen if he ever plays another game in the OHL.

In 35 games this season, McCue has logged 18 goals and 13 assists for a total of 31 points. This is already a career-high for him.
