Jacob Quillan was an unlikely call-up by the Toronto Maple Leafs a few weeks ago after the team suffered a plethora of injuries.
However, he got the call because he had been working extremely hard with the Toronto Marlies, and the team wanted to make sure his hard work was rewarded.
In his very first game, Quillan was the victim of a knee-on-knee hit from Nick Cousins that made him unable to play in the ensuing matches.
Since that time, fans have been wondering what would happen to Quillan especially with various forwards returning from injury.
Today, we got that confirmation as it was revealed by the team's public relations department that Quillan was sent back down to the AHL.
Overall, this is not a bad thing for the kid and it is probably for the best when you consider where his development is.
In the AHL and the Marlies, he will actually get significant playing time which is exactly what you want for a young player.
If he continues to work hard, then he will likely get more opportunities, which is always a positive.
Meanwhile, Maple Leafs fans will surely be excited to see guys like Matthew Knies and John Tavares back in the lineup.
The team is on a three-game losing and their offense has been stagnant. With the regulars in the lineup, that could very well change.
