Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is looking for a lucrative new contract and the new salary cap projects from the NHL and NHLPA are going to be a huge help.

Mitch Marner is seeking a new contract and it is probably going to cost the Toronto Maple Leafs upwards of $14 million per year.

Although the Leafs are rumored to be opposed to paying Marner more than Auston Matthews, there is some relief coming that could help both sides in their negotiations.

As of right now, the NHL salary cap is $88 million, however, there has been talk of a major increase.

In fact, the NHL and NHLPA put out new projections today, claiming that next season's salary cap will be $95.5 million.

This is a substantial increase, and it is believed that the subsequent years will be even more lucrative with salary caps of $104 million and $113.5 million.

"The NHL and NHLPA are projecting substantial increases to the current $88M salary cap in the coming years:

2025-26: $95.5M
2026-27: $104M
2027-28: $113.5M"

These $9.5 million year-over-year increases will ensure that salaries are going to be rising significantly.

In fact, Connor McDavid could very well be making an AAV of $20 million when all is said and done.

As for Marner, he might just raise his asking price, which is the negative side to all of this.

Either way, Brad Treliving will now have more room to sign guys Matthew Knies and John Tavares, which is a good thing.
