Overall, Sidney Crosby is a legend and with the Penguins faltering, it makes sense that he might want to go to a Stanley Cup contender like the Maple Leafs.
However, guys like Crosby don't become available via trade very often and when they do, it comes with a very steep price.
When McLennan floated his trade idea, he made the claim that the Leafs could trade Joseph Woll and Easton Cowan.
However, Nick Alberga of "Leafs Morning Take" had a different suggestion that he ended up turning into a poll on X, formerly Twitter.
In the poll, he asked fans if they would be willing to give up Matthew Knies for Sidney Crosby. Shockingly, the fans mostly said no.
This ended up leaving Alberga in a complete state of shock, as Crosby could make the Leafs immediate Cup winners.
In 20 games so far this season, Matthew Knies has eight goals and four assists for a total of 12 points.
These are solid numbers, however, they pale in comparison to what Sidney Crosby is capable of. Even at 37, he can average more than one point per game.
One has to wonder whether or not Maple Leafs fans are simply getting way too attached to the team right now.
Overall, you need to have the right pieces to win, and Crosby would certainly be that piece. He has three cups to his name and knows how to win at the highest level.
No disrespect to Knies, but he simply does not have the kind of resume that makes him an untradeable player.
Of course, one issue here is the fact that a trade for Crosby is simply too unlikely to even devote attention to.
Either way, the Leafs always have room to get better and if Crosby is ever made available, they should seek him out.
