Ever since the return of Auston Matthews to the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup, the team's power play has had an abysmal record of 2 for 15, which has Craig Berube pulling out what's left of his hair.
Due to these poor results, Craig Berube has opted to make a major change to his Power Play units.
As we had previously reported, the Maple Leafs head coach had created a PP1 unit that featured five forwards.
With Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies all on one line, you would think there would be some major offense happening.
However, that turned out to not be the case, and consequently, Berube has been left no choice but to change things up ahead of their game tonight against the Detroit Red Wings.
As you can see, Morgan Rielly is being switched out for Matthew Knies on the first Power Play Unit.
From there, Matthew Knies will joining Max Pacioretty, Max Domi, Connor Timmins, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson on the second unit.
There is no guarantee that any of this works, however, sometimes, it is good to just shake things up and try to inspire the players to do better.
Auston Matthews, in particular, has not been the goal-scorer we know him to be this season, and perhaps a change on the Power Play will inspire him to get back to his pace from last season.
