Yesterday, Mitch Marner gave Toronto Maple Leafs fans a bit of a scare as he missed practice. At the time, head coach Craig Berube said that his absence was due to "maintenance."
With the game just minutes away, fans have been waiting patiently to see if Marner would crack the lineup.
Unfortunately, he will not. The Leafs just took to social media to confirm that Marner has been ruled out for tonight's game.
Moreover, the team disclosed that the forward is suffering from a lower-body injury and that he is day-to-day as a result.
It is unknown when or how Marner obtained this injury. Although the prevailing theory is that he injured his foot against the Edmonton Oilers after blocking a shot.
Whatever the case may be, this is a huge blow to the Maple Leafs as Marner has been their best forward this season.
He has 70 points in 52 games and has consistently been their best player on a nightly basis.
With Marner's injury, Max Domi will play right wing on the top line alongside Matthew Knies and Auston Matthews.
Marner is slated to play for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off and one has to wonder if that is in jeopardy now.
