This hit ultimately got Reaves ejected from the game and it was becoming very clear that the play would end in a suspension for the Maple Leafs star.
You can't be going around hitting people in the head, even if the player in question had their head down. Simply put, you just need to be a lot smarter sometimes.
Following the hit, there were many fans who resigned themselves to the fact that Reaves would be getting hit with some sort of suspension from the NHL and the Department of Player Safety.
That notion was all but confirmed earlier this morning as it was revealed that Reaves would be getting a hearing with the DoPS.
This is not an in-person hearing which means that Reaves will be getting under five games. However, it is hard to tell how long the suspension is actually going to be here.
It could very well just be one game or it could even just so happen to be a fine of sorts. Whatever the case may be, there is no doubt that Reaves messed up.
Despite all of this, it was still a pretty good evening for the Maple Leafs. They defeated the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 4-3 in overtime.
Now, the team is sitting at a record of 11-6-2 and they are starting to look like one of the best teams in the league.
