General Manager Brad Treliving is being tasked with making some big moves at the trade deadline and it makes sense when you consider how the Toronto Maple Leafs are buyers with a shot at winning the Stanley Cup
The Leafs would love a middle-six center and one of the names that has been brought up is Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins.
He is someone who can score goals, make plays, and even throw his body around and get in fights when he needs to.
However, if Treliving was serious about trading for Frederic, he might want to rethink those plans.
We say this because today, it was revealed that the center is dealing with a lower-body injury and is now considered week-to-week.
While teams can still trade for him, it remains clear that doing so would be a risk. There are only 24 games left in the regular season and the Leafs would want a new player to come in right away and integrate with Craig Berube's system prior to the playoffs.
Moreover, Frederic is an unrestricted free agent which would make him a rental and that's not ideal if you want to keep the team together long-term.
Brad Treliving has other priorities right now, with Brayden Schenn and Scott Laughton being at the very top of his list right now.
Either way, Frederic remains an option and due to his injury the Leafs might be able to nab him at a discount along with another center. It's a dream scenario but stranger things have happened.
