He has five goals and one assist so far. Meanwhile, last season, he had a total of 35 points in 80 games. Based on his numbers to start the year, he is already on track for a better season. Furthermore, there is a lot of room for further growth here, which is pretty amazing to see. However, as Editor In Leaf pointed out, this could be an opportunity for the Leafs to do something they haven't accomplished in literal decades.
Not since Tomas Kaberle have the Leafs taken someone deep in the draft, only to develop them into a superstar with the franchise. Auston Matthews wouldn't count because he is a lottery pick. Instead, they mean a guy who could have gone either way, but stuck it out in Toronto and was a complete stud.
At this point, it is going to be interesting to see what kind of player Knies can develop into. Comparing him to a star like Kaberle is probably a bit too premature. However, he certainly has the potential to surprise some people. This Leafs team already has a lot of firepower, and some extra depth will always be appreciated.
Only time will tell what is in store for Knies and his career. Playing on the most valuable team in the entire NHL certainly comes with some pressure. However, if the team wins a cup, it will also come with some accolades, as well.
