William Nylander reacts to being reunited with his brother Alex
The Nylander brothers' reunion with the Toronto Maple Leafs is a story of family pride and hockey dreams realized.
Alex Nylander's one-year NHL deal which was signed on Friday, marks the goal of his determination to rejoin the NHL and play alongside his older brother William.
This marks the first time they've shared a team since representing Team Sweden at the 2016 World Juniors.
Alex's journey began in July with a signed AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies, and the Buffalo Sabres initially drafted him as a first-round pick.
Over 14 games, he had eight goals and four assists and his NHL opportunity with Toronto shows that he is making a great effort and that his hard work is being repaid.
William Nylander is ecstatic to have his brother with the Leafs and shared the moment when GM Brad Treliving informed him of Alex's signing.
"It was a very special moment."
On Saturday, the excitement was evident at practice and with head coach Craig Berube teasing William Nylander enthusiasm translated into a flurry of goals on the ice.
While the brothers didn't share a line in practice, William skated with Nick Robertson and Pontus Holmberg while Alex was paired with Fraser Minten and Nikita Grebenkin and there's hope they might eventually reunite on the same line to test the combo.
Their last time playing together at the 2016 World Juniors holds bittersweet memories since they didn't win this game and Alex got a bad injury.
William recalls scoring with Alex on their first shift before suffering a concussion and now, the brothers have the chance to create new and unforgettable memories together with the Leafs.
