Nylander has been by far the best goal-scorer on the Toronto Maple Leafs this season and with Auston Matthews injured, they have needed him to produce at a high level.
Last night, the Maple Leafs ended up losing to the New York Islanders by a score of 6-3, and fans were not too happy about it.
However, despite the loss, Nylander was able to secure another two goals and was a real bright spot in the entire game.
As reported by Luke Fox, the Leafs winger is now just one goal behind Leon Draisaitl for the lead league, as the Edmonton Oilers superstar has 24.
After the game last night, Nylander was asked about the scoring race and whether or not he is worried about the Rocket Richard Trophy.
As he so bluntly explained, it is one of those personal accolades that he isn't really thinking about right now.
Right now, Nylander is on pace for a respectable 56-goal season. This would be a career-high for him.
He has hit 40 goals in back-to-back seasons, so there is no denying that Nylander has the goal-scoring touch right now.
Having said that, it will be interesting to see if he is able to keep it up throughout the entirety of the season.
If Matthews remains out for longer than expected, you can be sure he will get leaned on a whole lot more.
