Dennis Hildeby played in his fourth NHL start on Sunday night and he ultimately helped the Maple Leafs pick up a huge win in which he turned aside 30 of 32 shots on net.
The Maple Leafs are set to go on a road trip this week and Hildeby will be the backup goaltender throughout this stretch of hockey.
This is a special roadie for the team as it marks the start of the annual Mentors Trip. Every single player on the team is allowed to invite one of their mentors to come along for the experience.
It is a phenomenal gesture from the team that sees players invite their fathers, brothers, and even their best friends.
Unfortunately for Hildeby, he was called up on December 30th and was unable to make arrangements on time, according to David Alter of The Hockey News.
However, this led to a pretty hilarious comment from the goaltender, who had a pretty good sense of humor about all of this.
It is a cocky statement, albeit one that shouldn't be taken too seriously as Hildeby was only making light of his situation.
Having said that, it will be interesting to see what Hildeby's role will be throughout this road trip.
The Leafs are not going to be playing back-to-backs at the same frequency as before which gives starter Joseph Woll a lot more breathing room.
Meanwhile, Hildeby is still trying to find his footing in the NHL, posting a 3.23 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage.
