Mikko Rantanen was traded by the Colorado Avalanche to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night and as it turns out, the forward is not too enthusiastic about it all.

The Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Chicago Blackhawks engaged in a blockbuster trade on Friday night as Mikko Rantanen was sent to the Canes.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes also acquired Taylor Hall while Martin Necas was sent to the Avalanche.

Rantanen was up for a new contract and according to reports, the Avalanche simply had no interest in negotiating.

As a result, the Hurricanes forward found himself on the chopping block and now, he must get acquainted with a new team.

According to reporter Andy Strickland, Rantanen is actually very upset about the trade and felt blindsided by it all.

Mikko Rantanen was completely caught off guard by the trade and was very upset. Colorado showed very little to no interest in attempting to re-sign him over the last several months. This was a panic move by Colorado.

The Colorado Avalanche are a team that has fallen off a bit since their Stanley Cup victory back in 2022.

However, they still have Nathan MacKinnon and they have some solid pieces that can help them get back to that playoff success.

Having said that, it was clear that they needed a change, especially with the risk of losing Rantanen at play.

One has to wonder if we will see some other massive trades in the not-so-distant future.
