Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about the firing of former Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery, today.

Yesterday, Montgomery was fired after starting the season with an 8-9-3 record.

Overall, his time with the Bruins was successful with a record of 120-41-23. Needless to say, it is absolutely ridiculous that the Bruins would fire him.

Sure, the start to the season for the Bruins was not living up to expectations. However, that should not have been enough to get fired so soon.

Typically, you give your head coach a chance to rally the troops and make things better.

The team probably could have waited until the all-star break before doing something so ridiculous. However, they opted to do something truly spontaneous and perhaps even brash.

When asked about Montgomery's firing, Berube offered an understandable answer.

Craig Berube feels for Jim Montgomery

"He was fantastic. I feel for coaches. It's a tough business. It really is. This one's more personal for me."
Berube and Montgomery have worked together in the past, and clearly, Berube knows how good of a coach he is.

One has to wonder what was happening within the Bruins locker room for something like this to happen.

Either way, Joe Sacco is now taking over from Montgomery, and he has a long road ahead of him. The Bruins are going to have to turn it around fast to make this firing even remote worth it.

It seems pretty clear cut that the Bruins are in panic mode, and this latest move proves that.

Hopefully, Montgomery is able to land on his feet soon.
