Relatively Unknown Maple Leafs Prospect Speaks Out Ahead of His NHL Debut
This past week, the Toronto Maple Leafs called up Jacob Quillan from the Toronto Marlies and now, the kid is going to be making his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators.
Jacob Quillan has been grinding away on the Toronto Marlies this season and it has earned him his first career NHL game.
Sure, it might be due to an abundance of injuries, but there is no doubt that the kid is deserving of his new role.
Jacob Quillan on his Toronto Maple Leafs debut
Quillan has many family members near Ottawa, where the Maple Leafs are playing tonight.
Ahead of his first career game, the 22-year-old spoke about just how excited he is to be part of the Maple Leafs and get this kind of opportunity.
«I'm excited. I have a lot of family coming tonight. A lot of people who helped me get here. So just thankful for them, thankful for God. Just going to take it all in.»
Previously, Craig Berube noted that the reason for Quillan's promotion to the NHL was due to his hard work.
The team wants to reward all of the players who are putting their best foot forward, and this is a great way for the franchise to do that.
Having said that, Quillan likely won't be up with the team for long as guys such as Matthew Knies, John Tavares, and perhaps even Connor Dewar will be back in a few weeks from now.
Regardless, this is a great moment for the Marlies forward to show what he can do and perhaps win future jobs with the Leafs, in the future.
Hopefully, Quillan can make an impact and maybe even get on the scoresheet. It would certainly make for an excellent homecoming.
