Alex Steeves is a player who has been trying to get a real shot with the Maple Leafs for years.
He has played 11 games over four seasons and only had one assist to show for it. However, he got to play tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes and he made the most of it.
Steeves was on his first shift of the game when he took a beautiful shot from the top of the circle that ultimately ended up in the back of the net.
It was a great heads up play especially since it seemed like the forward was about to skate to the bench for the end of his shift.
Having said that, Steeves got his first-career NHL goal and he was happy to keep the puck. It is a puck that he is going to cherish for the rest of his life.
At the time of writing this, the Toronto Maple Leafs are up 4-0 in the first period against the Hurricanes, and Steeves has a goal and an assist.
John Tavares, Pontus Holmberg, and David Kampf each have goals right now, and it is good to see the bottom six get some production.
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner are back in the lineup following the 4 Nations Face-Off, although for now, they have been held without points.
If the Leafs can finish this game out, then it will be a huge win against one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference.
No matter what, this is a dream start for this Leafs team which has been eager for a huge playoff showing.
