Anthony Stolarz has been on a Vezina Trophy-winning pace so far this as he has amassed a record of 9-5-2 all while posting a .927 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.15.
However, it almost all went to waste last night as the Maple Leafs goaltender was pulled from the team's match against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
Joseph Woll came in to replace Stolarz, and it was immediately made clear that he had suffered some sort of injury.
Immediately after the game, Craig Berube noted that the team would evaluate the goalie and would hopefully have some sort of update later today.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, we still do not know the exact nature of the injury. Although what we do know, is that Stolarz is officially being listed as day-to-day.
This is certainly relatively good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who would rather not lose out on one of the best goalies in the league for a prolonged period of time.
Following the news regarding Anthony Stolarz, the team decided to call up goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies.
They did so on an emergency basis, and we imagine he will get at least a start or two while Stolarz seeks to recover from his injury.
While fans would much rather their goalie be healthy, it is important to remember that Woll is more than capable. After all, he did secure the win for the Leafs last night.
As for Hildeby, he is another solid goaltender who proves that the Maple Leafs have an abundance of depth at the position, even if they don't have a clear number one.
