Auston Matthews is the best goal-scorer in the entire NHL and tonight, he helped lead the charge as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 7-3.
What makes this scoreline so special is the fact that the Leafs were down 3-0 after the first period, only to score seven unanswered goals.
Matthews scored the Leafs' fifth goal of the game and it came in the third period when the Habs were feeling a bit of desperation.
In fact, this goal came on the penalty kill which led to a revelation that is probably going to shock you as a Maple Leafs fan.
This was the first time Auston Matthews had ever scored a shorthanded goal. Yes, you read that right. Up until tonight, the captain had never scored on the penalty kill.
Now, Matthews has 17 goals on the season after an uncharacteristically slow start that was explained by an injury.
These days, the captain appears to be back at 100 percent which is very good news for all of the Maple Leafs fans out there.
The Leafs have also won two games in a row after going on a three-game losing streak that was concerning to a lot of fans.
This is helping the team's case in the Eastern Conference as they look to win the Division for the first time since its realignment.
Only time will tell whether or not Auston Matthews can keep up his pace and deliver playoff success to this starving franchise.
