Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been out of the Maple Leafs lineup with a bizarre upper-body injury that no one can seem to explain.

In fact, things have gotten so weird that on Tuesday, it was revealed that Matthews had traveled to Munich, Germany so that he could get care with a specialist.

Overall, this is a bit of a surprising development given the fact that Matthews was only supposed to be day-to-day at first.

For now, journalists and beat reporters around the team have a lot of questions that the team just isn't answering.

It has been said that Matthews will be out until at least Sunday but he could be out beyond that as well.

Meanwhile, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving just offered up a reason for why the team is being so quiet right now.

Auston Matthews gets a co-sign from Brad Treliving

"I'm protective of our players. We want to share as much as we can, but anything that puts the player at jeopardy, I'm not going to do that. There's not surgery."

Simply put, the team wants to be as charitable as possible to its players.

Matthews deserves privacy and respect as he goes through whatever health issues he may have.

That said, fans are still going to be concerned for their captain and prolific goal-scorer.

It seems like Matthews isn't making much progress, and that should be a concern.

For now, however, fans are just going to have to take things day by day and hope for the best.
