Max Pacioretty laid out Jack Hughes last night with a massive hit that some felt may have been a bit of a dirty shot, especially since Pacioretty got all head.
However, no penalty was called on the play and it does not appear as though the NHL is going to be getting involved in any capacity.
After the game, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was asked about the hit.
His team was flat for the first two periods, yet somehow, they squeaked out a 2-1 win. In the eyes of Berube, this hit may have been the catalyst for the team's third-period awakening.
As for Sheldon Keefe of the New Jersey Devils, he had a very different take on all of this.
Simply put, he felt like it had absolutely no bearing on the game and that it was completely forgettable within the context of the match.
It should not be a surprise that Keefe would feel this way and Berube would feel another.
Having said that, this was one of those wins the Maple Leafs were very lucky to come away with.
Under any normal circumstances, they should have lost last night's game. However, they got an otherworldly performance from Anthony Stolarz who is on another level right now.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs can get it all figured out in time for their next outing tomorrow night against the Anaheim Ducks.
