In a rare scene that resonated with many Torontonians, the
Utah Hockey Club had to abandon their team bus and walk to their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday evening.

The team's bus was caught in gridlock which worsened by road closures because of the Santa Claus Parade and this was leaving players with no choice but to make their way to the arena on foot.

Defenseman Maveric Lamoureux shared a lighthearted video of the unusual journey on social media, joking about the team potentially missing their pre-game meeting.

«I think that's a first for everyone. Never saw that before,» Lamoureux said.

«So, it's pretty much the whole team walking the street,» he said, joking that they would miss their 5:15 p.m. pre-game meeting which started «in one minute.»

«Toronto has too much traffic so the boys got off the bus and walked to the rink!» the team wrote with the video. «I smell a conspiracy!»

The team's social media playfully said that it was a conspiracy, while NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reacted with a tweet.

Despite their unconventional pre-game warmup, Utah had a 1-0 lead in the first period against the Leafs, but Toronto finished the game with a 3-2 win.

The incident even drew the attention of Ontario Premier Doug Ford who used it as an opportunity to address Toronto's infamous traffic issues.

He called for a new focus on reducing gridlock tby improving transit and infrastructure planning.

Luckily for Utah, this will be their only visit in Toronto this year.
