Ottawa Senators pest Nick Cousins destroyed Toronto Maple Leafs forward Jacob Quillan with a knee-on-knee hit and it has led to some debates amongst hockey analysts.

Jacob Quillan was playing in his NHL debut on Saturday although things went South very early on thanks to Nick Cousins.

Both players were injured on the reckless play and there have been talks about why Cousins was never assessed a penalty.

Jay Rosehill weighs in on Nick Cousins and Jacob Quillan

According to former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill, the anger directed at Cousins is completely misguided.

Instead, the former NHLer believes that Quillan could have avoided the injury if he had just stayed in the lane and taken the open ice hit.

Instead, he tried to avoid contact and ended up putting himself in a much worse situation that led to a bad injury.

"I don't agree with it at all, look at Cuzzy, pause it right there. He's going for the hit and Quillan's the one who moves to the right trying to avoid a hit. Like Quillan jumped to the right leaving his legs in the lane that his body was in where the guy is going. You think Cuzzy did anything wrong? Cuzzy's going to make a body-check and Quillan pulls to the right and it happens every time with a god damn kneeing penalty, a guy's jumping out of the freaking way trying to avoid a hit, which is fine, you can sidestep a guy but if your legs are left in the lane where the body contact was going to happen... you're going to get your knee hurt. I don't agree with Chief whatsoever, I think coaches always are annoyed when a knee happens and they blame the other guy."

It is definitely an interesting perspective to have, albeit it is not a surprising one when you consider that Rosehill is an enforcer.

Some young guys are a bit timid to take hits and when you are scared to get hit, you are going to get injured.

Hopefully, this is something Quillan is able to bounce back from in the near future and get back on the ice.

As for Cousins, he continues to be a hated player and that is why no one is willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
