Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares has been placed on the injured reserve and it has made way for a prospect to get a second chance with the lineup.

John Tavares was injured at practice on Wednesday and today, fans were eagerly awaiting an update on his condition.

It was subsequently revealed that he would be placed on the injured reserve, meaning he now has to miss at least a week of action.

John Tavares is out and Fraser Minten is in

With Tavares out of the Maple Leafs lineup, the team has decided to call upon Toronto Marlies center Fraser Minten.

Minten had four points in 11 games during his time with the team earlier in the season, and many fans have been calling for him to make his grand return.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not he slots into the lineup tonight, as the Maple Leafs look to take on the New Jersey Devils.

The injury to Tavares is truly terrible timing when you consider how the Maple Leafs are in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

They have been lackluster on offense during this time and losing their second-line center is definitely going to leave a hole in the lineup.

That said, the team has had success with their best players out of the lineup this season. One can just look at their record without Auston Matthews to see what we mean.

Whatever the case may be, we wish John Tavares a speedy recovery. You never want to see a player go down, especially during a practice.

This is a developing story, so stay tuned to as we will be sure to bring you the latest news and updates.
