If you have been watching the Leafs this season, then you are well aware of the fact that defenseman Morgan Rielly has been having one of the worst seasons of his entire career.
Rielly is supposed to be the most offensive-minded defenseman on the Leafs, however, he has not been able to showcase that due to numerous cold streaks.
In 46 games this season, the defenseman has only notched 20 points, which includes just five goals.
Moreover, his plus-minus is -16 which makes him one of the worst players on the team in terms of net rating.
In the statistic above, you can see that Rielly is actually ranked 28th on the Maple Leafs in terms of plus-minus, which is absolutely abysmal and downright laughable.
The leaders on the team are Chris Tanev (+16) and Jake McCabe (+13). Needless to say, Rielly no longer has claim to being the number one defenseman on the team.
Overall, the Maple Leafs are going to need to figure out a way to get the most out of Rielly moving forward.
His latest performances have been awful and you can't keep having your $7.5 million defenseman play this way.
However, Morgan Rielly is known for turning it on come the postseason, so perhaps the Leafs do have something to be excited about moving forward.
Despite the struggles of their assistant captain, the team is still first in the Atlantic Division, so they must be doing something right.
