Prior to going down with an injury back in December, Anthony Stolarz was playing fantastic hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He posted up a goals-against average of 2.15 and a save percentage of .927 which is absolutely fantastic.
Stolarz has been slowly attempting to come back, which is the correct strategy especially when you are coming off of a knee injury.
It appears as though the goaltender is now out and about skating all by himself, with the surveillance of his goalie coach.
In new footage that was posted online, Stolarz could be seen doing lateral movement drills in his crease. Of course, these drills require you to be nimble in the knees, so it is a good sign.
According to David Alter of The Hockey News, there is a case to be made that the Leafs should keep Stolarz sidelined until after the Four Nations Face-Off.
While this sounds like the smartest course of action, it should be noted that Joseph Woll and Dennis Hildeby have struggled at times.
Heading into the postseason, the Maple Leafs do not have a clear number one guy and it is going to be interesting to see if they are able to find one.
With Stolarz returning within the next couple of weeks, there is a good chance that he separates himself as the guy.
That said, the Leafs will have to manage his ice time as a means to protect him from another injury.
