Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is about to return from a lower-body injury and as it turns out, the whole situation weighed on him quite heavily.

John Tavares was one of the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs prior to his lower-body injury a few weeks ago.

At this time, the forward has a total of 20 goals and 42 points in 44 games, and there is no doubt that his production is outflanking his age.

John Tavares returning to the Toronto Maple Leafs

Over the last few days, Tavares has been a full participant at practice which has been good news for the Maple Leafs.

In fact, he is expected to play on Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers which is good news given the fact that the Leafs are currently on a three-game losing streak.

While speaking to the media, Tavares admitted that his injury sucked and you can't help but feel for the guy as he has been a trooper all season long.

«Not playing sucks. I really just tried to narrow my focus to getting a little better every day. Obviously, it's led to being part of practice today and being able to push myself pretty well. So, it was very positive.»

Despite losing the captaincy in the offseason, Tavares has been a consummate professional who has never let his confidence waiver.

There are only a handful of guys in the NHL who would have taken this demotion in stride, and Tavares is one of them.

Hopefully, his return to the lineup is a fruitful one, although we have no doubts that it will be.

The Leafs are currently in need of an injection of offense and Tavares is someone who can help provide that.
