Canadian NHL Teams Are Reportedly Scared of the Massive Salary Cap Increase
The NHL salary cap is going to be going up significantly over the next three years and a new report suggests that Canadian teams are concerned about the implications.
Yesterday, it was revealed that the NHL salary cap would be going up to $95.5. million for the 2025-26 season.
Moreover, by the 2027-2028 season, the salary cap will be set at $113.5 million which is a massive jump that will lead to some huge salary increases for top tier players.

However, it would appear as though some Canadian teams are fearing this move.
According to Frank Seravalli, the exchange rate is not beneficial for Canadian franchises and owners of those teams are worried they won't be able to generate extra revenue to reach the upper apron.
How will those teams find a way to significantly generate new revenue to match increase?
Of course, this is something that will only affect teams like the Winnipeg Jets and the Ottawa Senators.
Canadian franchises like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, and even the Vancouver Canucks should have no problem meeting the demands.
Typically, rich owners can help counterbalance those revenue shortcomings and if the owner is willing to spend money, then there won't be an issue.
However, it is easy to see why teams in smaller markets would be concerned about the ramifications here.
Leafs fans, on the other hand, shouldn't get too worried just yet. The team has a whole lot of money and they have no issues with spending a bit of dough to keep the roster fresh.
