Anthony Stolarz has been injured since before Christmas and it has forced Joseph Woll to be the starting goaltender.
As for the backups, the team has rotated between Dennis Hildeby and Matt Murray, although the latter has not gotten to play during his most recent stint.
Over the past few days, Stolarz has been ramping up his ice time and has been a full participant at practice.
In fact, today's practice was one that truly demonstrated where Stolarz is in his recovery as he was one of two goalies on the ice today.
Matt Murray was absent and based on this fact alone, it appears as though Stolarz might just be ready to be the backup on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers.
If that is truly the case, then Matt Murray will likely be sent down to the Toronto Marlies very soon.
Moreover, if Woll and Stolarz can stay healthy for the rest of the season, then that will be the last we see of Murray for a while.
Stolarz has a goals-against average of 2.15 and a save percentage of .927. Had he not been injured, he would be a Vezina candidate.
Having said that, the Leafs have a lot to be excited about right now. They are on the cusp of getting a stud back in the midst of a bad losing streak.
Only time will tell whether or not Stolarz can officially become the starter as the playoffs approach.
