With Anthony Stolarz injured, Joseph Woll be the starting goalie for the Maple Leafs moving forward, and tonight, he gets to play opposite of Stars netminder Jake Oettinger.
Once upon a time, Woll and Oettinger were teammates for Team USA, and they got to see how one another played.
Oettinger has become a huge star with Dallas and is their clear number-one guy, and he probably will be for many years to come.
Meanwhile, Woll continues to battle for that numbers one spot, with Stolarz showing some flashes of brilliance.
Ahead of tonight's game, Oettinger actually gave Woll quite a bit of praise, admitting that players on the Stars are aware of just how good the guy is.
Woll has been solid this year as he has eight wins in 12 games, and he also has a shutout, a goals-against average of 2.24 and a save percentage of .918.
Joseph Woll will likely be the starter for over a month moving forward as Stolarz is going to be out for 4-6 weeks due to knee surgery.
Ultimately, this is going to be a very interesting stretch of hockey, and we cannot wait to see how this is all going to play out.
This is a massive opportunity for Woll to take the starting job from Stolarz, once and for all. Tonight against Dallas is the first big test and the Leafs are counting on him to pass it.
