Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe got into a fight with Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers and it led to a truly scary scene.

Jake McCabe has been a warrior for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, although tonight, he was part of a frightening incident following a fight with Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe goes back to the locker room

As you can see in the clip below, McCabe was brought down to the ice by Hathaway and the defenseman's head slammed against the ice.

The Maple Leafs big man had suffered a head injury earlier in the season, and you can tell that he was dazed.

He tried to get up and ultimately fell back over, with Morgan Rielly attempting to keep his head elevated.

Subsequently, McCabe was able to get up on his own, however, he went straight to the locker room so that he could be looked at for whatever was wrong with him.

Given his history with head injuries this season, there is no telling what this could mean for the immediate future.

However, our biggest concern right now is McCabe's health and how he is feeling at the moment. You never want to see a guy go down like that.

Last night, the defenseman scored his first goal of the season, breaking the Leafs blue line's goalless streak.

As it stands, the team is playing against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second half of a back-to-back and they are up 2-1.

UPDATE: Jake McCabe is not on the Maple Leafs bench to start the second period.
