Maple Leafs Have Some Peculiar Plans for John Tavares at the Trade Deadline
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that needs to make a splash at the trade deadline and it seems like some of their plans involve none other than John Tavares.
Maple Leafs forward John Tavares has been playing center on the second line this season and he has been absolutely fantastic in his role.
Although with the Maple Leafs looking to add at the center position, it would appear as though Tavares could be affected.
Maple Leafs are thinking about John Tavares at the trade deadline
Don't worry, the Maple Leafs have no plans to trade their former captain. Instead, they simply want to find a second-line center who could move Tavares to the left wing.
However, as The Fourth Period reports, the Leafs are also happy with getting themselves a left-winger and keeping their superstar forward at center.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving has been out there searching. He and the staff have been looking around to see what could be available and what is currently available. They're also keeping an eye on potential opportunities to pounce on if they arise.
It's no secret that they want to upgrade their center position. If they add a second-line center, they could move John Tavares to the left. There's also discussion that if things don't pan out, they could look for a left-wing scorer and keep Tavares in his current position.
The Fourth Period also noted which centers the Maple Leafs would like the acquire.
Among these players are Brock Nelson, Scott Laughton, and the injured Yanni Gourde.
The Maple Leafs have been linked to forwards such as Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders, Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers (whom they have shown interest in for the past two seasons), and Yanni Gourde of the Seattle Kraken, who is currently injured.
Toronto is exploring where they can make an addition. Scott Laughton is still part of the conversation for a third-line role, but the asking price remains high. It's uncertain if Toronto is willing to part with any of their top prospects to make that happen, so we'll see how that unfolds, but Toronto is looking to make a move before the deadline.
It is going to be difficult for Brad Treliving to get a deal done but Leafs fans are still keeping the faith.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how Tavares' role will be affected by all of this.
