Matthew Knies is the latest Toronto Maple Leafs forward to get hit with the injury bug as players like Auston Matthews and Max Pacioretty remain out of the lineup.

Knies' injury was sustained a few days ago during a game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

The forward was hit hard by Zach Whitecloud and the hit was extremely controversial as the perpetrator did not get a penalty.

Meanwhile, it became pretty clear very fast that Knies was going to have to miss some time.

Well, today, Leafs fans got a good update on both Knies and Matthews, courtesy of Craig Berube.

"They're feeling good, so it's a good sign," Berube explained

David Alter of The Hockey News recently came out and offered a positive update on Knies, noting that he did get to practice this morning.

Matthew Knies back on the ice

"Matthew Knies is on the ice early this morning getting in some skating work. He's been ruled out for tonight and Wednesday after being placed on IR with an upper-body injury."

Unfortunately, Knies will not be back in time for a game on Wednesday. Regardless, he seems to be progressing.

The Leafs have dealt with an absurd amount of injuries so far this season, so this does constitute as good news.

Matthews, Pacioretty, Max Domi, David Kampf, and Calle Jarnkrok have also been hit with the injury bug, and it has forced the Leafs into an uncomfortable situation.

Despite all of this, the Leafs have won six of their last seven and are currently at a record of 12-6-2.

Tonight, they will take on the Utah Hockey Club.
