Max Pacioretty has never been known as a very physical guy, however, that has changed over these past couple of years as his goalscoring ability starts to fade.
Tonight, Pacioretty was in the lineup against the New Jersey Devils, who were looking to exact revenge on the Leafs for a game earlier in the season.
In the end, the Maple Leafs stole the game from the Devils. They barely had any shots on goal and were carried by a 37-save performance from Anthony Stolarz.
However, Auston Matthews sealed the 2-1 win in overtime with a beauty of a breakaway goal.
As for Max Pacioretty, he made headlines during the game thanks to this hit on Jack Hughes.
In the clip below, you can see that Pacioretty absolutely obliterated Jack Hughes and left his bell rung.
Although Hughes was okay, it was clear that Pacioretty made clear head contact and was targeting him in many ways.
No penalty was called on the play, however, this is a hit that might be looked at by the Department of Player Safety and we all know how they like to treat the Maple Leafs.
Regardless, the big story of the night is the fact that the Maple Leafs were able to steal a win after a truly terrible performance.
Hopefully, the Leafs can start playing good hockey again, because this latest performance was nothing to celebrate.
As for Max Pacioretty, at least the Leafs know they have a guy who can hit.
