Brendan Shanahan goes full politician when asked about Mitch Marner contract negotiations
Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan was asked about Mitch Marner's new contract and as you can imagine, he avoided giving a real answer.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have to sign Mitch Marner to a new contract, and Brendan Shanahan has certainly been in the room for a lot of these conversations.
At this stage, it is believed that Mitch Marner could wind up making upwards of $14 million per year on his next deal, which would put him on par with Leon Draisaitl.
Throughout the contract negotiation process, Mitch Marner has refused to actually say anything of substance.
Instead, he has danced around various questions and doesn't seem too worried about the potential outcome.
Recently, Brendan Shanahan was asked about the negotiations, and the fans were certainly hoping for some clarity.

However, that is not at all what the journalist or the fans received in this instance.
Instead, Shanahan gave a politician's answer where he praised Marner but had no real interest in explaining where both sides are at.
For now, fans will just have to be patient when it comes to Mitch Marner and his standing with the Maple Leafs.
The Leafs are obviously very interested in keeping Marner on the team going forward.
However, it makes sense that they would want to simply negotiate and attempt to get the best deal possible.
Hopefully, this doesn't become dramatic and end with a sign and trade or another disastrous outcome.
