Darnell Nurse is reportedly plotting his revenge on Ryan Reaves
The tension between Darnell Nurse and Ryan Reaves is heating up, and it's becoming deeply personal between the two players.
As seen on NHL Trade Talk, former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jason Strudwick recently discussed the situation on the "Got Yer' Back" podcast with Ryan Rishaug, showing how Darnell Nurse may seek revenge for Ryan Reaves' dangerous hit.
Ryan Reaves was suspended for five games for the high hit on Darnell Nurse.
He has made it clear that he won't change his hard-hitting style by openly admitting that he plays to "inflict pain" but insists he does it legally.
Jason Strudwick believes Nurse won't let it slide and is predicting that when the Oilers and Maple Leafs face off on February 1, Dranell Nurse will look to settle the score himself.
He insists that no one else on the Oilers will fight Reaves since it's personal, and Nurse feels it's his battle to fight.
However, Darnell Nurse is far more valuable to the Oilers as a top-pair defenseman than Reaves is to the Leafs as an enforcer.
A fight would be a risky trade-off for Edmonton and potentially put them at a disadvantage if Nurse is penalized or injured again.
The question remains whether Nurse should seek retributionn and Strudwick suggests that Nurse's pride and the severity of the hit will push him toward confrontation.
For his part, Ryan Reaves looks unfazed and ready to face Nurse and he was reiterating that he plays with an edge and intends to continue doing so within the rules.
The upcoming February matchup promises to be intense as Darnell Nurse weighs personal pride against the needs of his team.
