Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is negotiating a new deal, however, his play with Team Canada could potentially give the Leafs a leg up in negotiations.

Mitch Marner started the 4 Nations Face-Off with a bang as he scored an overtime goal against Sweden that, in retrospect, helped Team Canada reach the Championship Game.

However, since that time, the Maple Leafs star has been a ghost on the ice and has been demoted numerous times by head coach Jon Cooper..

Mitch Marner on Team Canada

Against Team Finland on Monday, Marner was on the third line with guys like Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli.

This is a checking line which doesn't exactly play into Marner's strengths. In fact, he was so ghost-like that he only played 12:46.

Of all of Team Canada's players on Monday, only Travis Konecny had less ice time, which is extremely concerning stuff.

It is yet another example of Marner going ghost during big moments, and this is what Leafs fans were deathly afraid of.

With the forward demanding upwards of $14 million per year on his next contract, the Leafs have every right to tell him to kick rocks at this point.

Although he has been having a career year, it's important to remember that this is the regular season. If Marner plays like this in the playoffs, the Leafs may just have to move on.

Of course, he could have a phenomenal championship game and redeem himself. But if history tells us anything, there is a very small chance of that happening.

Hopefully, Canada is able to win anyway, as Team USA continues to display their arrogance at every turn.
