As reported by Hockey Patrol, on Leafs Morning Take, Paul Bissonnette suggested Laughton as an ideal trade target for Toronto, and he praises his 200-foot style and leadership qualities.
Laughton has spent his entire 12-year NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers since being drafted 20th overall in 2012 and this season, he has 7 goals and 14 points in 31 games.
Over his career, he's had 102 goals and 150 assists in 632 games while maintaining a faceoff win rate near 50%.
Known for his gritty play, Scott Laughton can win draws, kill penalties and consistently contribute 25-40 points per season.
Scott Laughton grew up playing for Toronto-based teams, including the Toronto Marlboros in the GTHL and while he seemed unenthusiastic when pranked about a trade to Toronto last year, his local roots might make a genuine move back home more appealing.
Laughton is in the fourth year of a five-year deal with a $3 million AAV which is making him an affordable option for the Leafs and his contract extends through next season, giving Toronto control for another year.
His ability to play center or wing, kill penalties and bring physicality makes him an enticing and cost-effective option for Brad Treliving.
If Philadelphia is open to moving him, Scott Laughton could provide the grit and defensive reliability Toronto needs without sacrificing too much of the future.
